John LaFitte Warren, Jr. spent his early years in Columbia, SC. He graduated from Columbia High School and later attended USC, where he finished his Bachelor of Arts, in History. From there he went to Candler School of Theology, Emory University, and received a Master of Divinity.
During the next four years of Clinical Pastoral Education, he was on staff at the Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia, Patrick B. Harris Psychiatric Hospital, Anderson, SC (two years) and the Baptist Medical Center, Columbia, SC.
John’s previous appointments include Zion UMC, Easley, Beulah UMC, Easley, Mt. Hebron UMC, West Columbia, Union UMC, Irmo, Trinity UMC, Greenville and
St. John’s UMC, Fort Mill.
John is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys hunting, fishing, golf and working on his farm.
He is married to Marianne Mitchell Warren who also grew up in Columbia. She graduated from Columbia College and is a public School teacher. She enjoys travelling, the beach and entertaining.
They have four children, Michael Dickson and Mitchell Dickson residing in Charlotte, NC, John Warren, III, beginning law school at Elon in the fall and Jennifer Warren, a rising junior at USC.
Gregory Jones has served Bethel as Director of Music Ministries and Organist since spring of 1988. Answering the call to church music ministry at age six, he has been in a leadership role since age 12, beginning in 1970. During these past 38 years, he has served United Methodist, Baptist, Christian (Disciples of Christ), Roman Catholic, & Presbyterian congregations. He has also served interim periods for Lutheran and Episcopal churches. For a decade he was Director of Choral Activities for The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina. He worked extensively with children and youth for many years at Camp St. Christopher, Seabrook Island. Also, he has had an extensive background in accompanying musical theatre and opera. Mr. Jones is an active clinician in the areas of liturgy-planning, organ service-playing and choral techniques. He has been instrumental in the founding of several new hand bell choirs throughout the region. Mr. Jones holds degrees in church music and performance, having studied at Shorter College, Rome, Georgia, Georgia State University, Atlanta, Georgia, and the Conservatories of Liege and Antwerp, Belgium.
