Sea Island Habitat for Humanity
Bethel's next Habitat workday will be held on Saturday, September 18, at Brownswood Place on Johns Island. We will work a half day, but it has not yet been determined whether the time will be 7:30 AM until 11:30 AM or 8:00 AM until 12:00 noon. The work supervisor will make that call closer to the date, and it will be depend upon whether the weather has begun to cool.
HALOS (Helping and Lending Outreach Support)
The Missions Committee recently completed the shopping for school uniforms and collection of school supplies for the back-to-school drive for the abused, neglected and foster children that the HALOS organization serves. The school uniforms and school supplies were delivered to HALOS on Tuesday, August 3rd, in time to be distributed so the children could have new clothes and school supplies to begin the school year. Thank you to all the members and various groups of Bethel UMC that contributed money for the purchase of the uniforms and for donating school supplies. The membership of Bethel donated $2,955.00 to the program, which enabled our committee shoppers to purchase 2 uniforms each for sixty-five (65) of these children. A list of contributors for the Back-to-School program may be found in this month’s newsletter.
A special thank you goes to the committee members who participated in the following roles:
· Uniform shoppers: Henrietta Evatt, Marie Fogle, Pam McMichael, Becky Moran, Amelia Ollis, Iona Sanders and Emmie Williams.
· Loading and delivering the uniforms and supplies: Ken Bolin, Becky Moran, John Ollis, Mike Tyrell, and Emmie Williams.
Red Bird Mission
The Missions committee is continuing to plan our annual work camp trip to southeastern Kentucky to the Red Bird Mission for the week of October 17th through the 23rd. We currently have 12 participants committed, but it’s not to late to join the group for the upcoming trip. Volunteers are needed in a variety of skill abilities and levels, as there are numerous areas and tasks to be accomplished. A Bake Sale will be held on Sunday, September 19th to help with the funding of our upcoming trip. If you have an interest in joining a truly rewarding experience for the work camp volunteers and the people we help, please contact Iona Sanders at 766-8833.
